Abstract A modeling scheme is proposed for simulating the intensity, duration, and frequency of instantaneous indoor water use at a single family residence. The intensity and duration of indoor water use are described with expected potential demand (EPD). The EPD depends primarily on residential demographics. The frequency of indoor water demand is visualized as a Poisson process with a time-dependent mean rate of occurrence that reflects diurnal water use habits. A field program is underway to test these model hypotheses.
