Abstract |
Evidence strongly indicates that the future of salmon and steelhead in the Columbia and Snake Rivers is seriously jeopardized by high levels of nitrogen supersaturation in these waters during spring fish migration periods. Under present conditions, toxic concentrations of dissolved nitrogen persist from the most upstream dams to the mouth of the Columbia River during periods of spill. The anadromous fish of the Columbia Basin, a major regional and national resource, could be reduced to 10 percent of its present size within three years. The objective of this report is to summarize the major findings and recommendations. |
