Abstract | Public policies that affect the Florida phosphate industry are described in this volume of a 7-volume central Florida phosphate industry areawide impact assessment. Inasmuch as environmental legislation and regulatory implementation are in constant flux, this document constitutes only a general overview of federal, state, and local requirements related to the environmental review process. Federal legislation explained includes the Clean Air Act, Federal Water Pollution Control Act, Atomic Energy Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, and Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act. Statuatory controls, permitting requirements, and enforcement at the state and local levels are also discussed. |
