Abstract
The MMS prepared this environmental impact statement (EIS) on Chevron's plan to drill 20 new wells within the Destin Dome (DD) 56 Unit, to produce up to 450 trillion cubic feet of natural gas per day, and to transport the gas through pipelines to processing plants in Alabama. The 11 blocks that make up the DD 56 Unit were leased from the Federal Government by Chevron during the 1980's. Chevron has already drilled three exploratory wells within the Unit, which showed that there is a great quantity of natural gas about 24,000 feet below the seafloor. The closes point of the Unit to the coastline of the Florida Panhandle is about 25 miles due south of Pensacola, Florida. Volume II contains the figures and tables referenced in Volume I.
