Phenyl glycidyl ether (PGE) is an effective stabilizer of halogenated compounds and compositions (1-7 incl.). In addition to its use as a stabilizer, it is an intermediate for preparing monometric and polymeric glycerol derivatives containing the phenoxy group. PGE is effective for increasing the storage and use stability of such materials as chlorinated paraffin, chlorinated rubber, and chlorine-containing insecticides. At concentrations as low as 0.1% it eliminates corrosion problems in storage, and in concentrations of 0.5-5.0% it will protect a product's stability against discoloration and decomposition. The concentration used depends on the application and the degree of stability desired. Phenyl glycidyl ether is soluble in halogenated materials in other materials compounded with them such as hydrocarbons, ketones, shellac, gums and cellulosics and therefore should be compatible in nearly all compositions where its use as a stabilizer is indicated. |
