Battelle-Northwest has developed a comprehensive mathematical water quality model, EXPLORE-I, for use in river basin planning and water resource studies. This generalized river basin water quality model can predict the hydrodynamics and water quality dynamics for rivers, well mixed estuaries, and thermally stratified reservoirs. The model has been set up, calibrated, and verified, using historical hydraulic and water quality data, on a portion of the Willamette River Basin consisting of major tributaries and a thermally stratified reservoir.
