Research Category: Drinking Water , Water
Objective:
Investigate the potential impact on public health brought about by emerging alternatives for rehabilitating drinking water distribution systems.
Progress Summary:
Further optimized and upgraded the hybrid combined reverse osmosis (RO) membrane and electrodialysis (ED) system for water concentration. XAD resin column was set up and is ready for operation. Haloacetaldehyde Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell toxicity was completed and a manuscript is in progress. CHO cell cycle alteration by haloacetonitriles was newly discovered and a manuscript is in progress.
Future Activities:
Complete the optimization and upgrade of RO/ED system. Obtain treated surface water prior to primary disinfection for the comparative DBP study. Chemical analysis and toxicity analysis of resulting concentrated sample. Operation of XAD resin extraction for toxicity analysis.
