Objective:
The objectives of this research project are to: (1) define the number and mass size distribution of aerosols for the Seattle, WA, area over the size range from 20 nm to 10 µm diameter at a central site and secondary sites; and (2) determine the hygroscopic properties of the ultrafine and fine aerosol in Seattle, WA.
Progress Summary:
The central site measurement has been underway since December 2000, and is proposed to continue through January 2003. The secondary sites measurement was limited to residences of panel subjects and included indoor and outdoor measurements. These data have served as the basis for positive matrix factorization analysis of source factors contributing to observed number and mass distribution. Determination of hygroscopic properties will be modeled based on a short series of measurements of Seattle aerosol.
Future Activities:
Data analysis is ongoing, and this includes calculating hourly and daily average number and size values to be entered into Data Core spreadsheets. One goal of Year 4 of the project is to conduct an analysis of associations between daily aerosol number and size values and daily visits to emergency departments for asthma.
