Abstract This technology transfer seminar series is sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) Biosystems Program. The Biosystems Program coordinates research, development, and evaluation of full-scale bioremediation activities. The seminar series provides participants with state-of-the-art information on the practical aspects of implementing bioremediation. The series is divided into the following sections: Background for Bioremediation Applications; In situ Treatment of Soils, Sediments, and Shorelines; Ex Situ Treatment With and Without a Reactor; Natural Attenuation; Treatment of the Subsurface; Each section includes discussion of advantages and limitations, materials handling, types of waste amenable to the treatment process, pre- and posttreatment requirements, and capital and operation and maintenance costs. The overall focus is on field applications in use today, with some information on processes that are nearing readiness for field use.
