Abstract |
In response to findings from the reevaluation of the Chesapeake Bay Basinwide Toxics Reduction Strategy, the Chesapeake Executive Council directed the Bay Agreement signatories to revise the basinwide strategy through a process that incorporates broad public involvement in the Strategy's development, review and implementation. The Chesapeake Bay Program's Toxics Subcommittee sponsored a series of stakeholder rountables to solicit active public participation in the strategy development. Roundtables were held in Pennsylvania on June 8, in Maryland on June 8, and in the District of Columbia on June 14, 1994. Stakeholders representing businesses, agricultural community, public interest groups, and local, regional, state, and federal government agencies, were invited to participate, (Appendix A). Each roundtable was structured to inform targeted stakeholders in each jurisdiction on the most recent findings regarding the effects of chemical contaminants on the Chesapeake Bay system and the wide range of reduction and prevention management actions being directed towards chemical contaminants. This summary of the Pennsylvania, Maryland, and District of Columbia stakeholder roundtables reflects discussions and recommendations made during the roundtables as well as followup written responses annotated on the draft commitments worksheets or in letter format. |
