Abstract |
The presence of biodegradable organic matter in drinking water can result in biologically unstable water that has been linked to various taste, odor and color problems. When the implicated bacteria are members of the total coliform group, those occurrences can result in major compliance violations. The amount of biodegradable organic matter in potable water is difficult to measure. The measurement of biodegradable matter in drinking water is an operationally defined parameter and can only be expressed in relative terms. The use of bioassay assays can provide important information regarding the nutrient status of water. |
