Abstract |
Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) is an emerging technology in which volatile organic chemicals (VOC) are extracted from soil through use of a vacuum system. The decision to employ a VOC control system treatment is largely dependent upon VOC concentrations and applicable regulations. The selection of a particular VOC treatment option may be somewhat more complicated and based upon individual site characteristics. Pacific Environmental Services, Inc. (PES) was contracted by the U.S. EPA to investigate and evaluate potential VOC control techniques for use at SVE sites. The purpose of the investigation is to gain insight into the operation of SVE systems in general and to develop and summarize information on the factors associated with determining applicable VOC control systems. These factors include the feasibility, relative cost, and performance of various air pollution control techniques. |
