Abstract |
An extensive literature survey was conducted to determine treatment methods for removing antimony, beryllium, cobalt, lithium, molybdenum, nickel, tungsten, vanadium, bisethers, polychlorinated biphenyls, chlorinated hydrocarbon insecticides, and organophosphorus insecticides from drinking water. The processes discussed included ion exchange, reverse osmosis, electrodialysis, distillation, coagulation/precipitation, chemical oxidation, radio-chemical degradation, and adsorption. Treatment efficiencies were determined in terms of influent and effluent concentrations for each applicable treatment method. Process designs, constraints and limitations, operating conditions, and costs were presented for each treatment process discussed. Each process was evaluated as to its availability, applicability, and technical and economic feasibility. The best available and best technically feasible treatment processes were presented for each contaminant. |
