Abstract |
A bacteriological survey of the Parker Strip - Lake Havasu areas of the Colorado River was conducted jointly by the State of Arizona and the Environmental Protection Agency, Region IX, during the Memorial Day weekend, May 25-29, 1973. Results of the study showed that fecal coliform counts exceeded the levels recommended for primary contact recreation water at Blue Water Marina and Buckskin Mountain State Park. Disease-causing bacteria (Arizona group, Salmonellae) were recovered from the Buckskin treatment plant. Included is a photograph of people swimming and playing next to this effluent pipe. Photographic evidence documents ponding of liquid over the septic tank leach fields during a peak-use period at Crazy Horse State Park. |
