Abstract A recreation-use survey of a smallmouth bass-scenic river was conducted above and below Broken Bow Reservoir on the flowing portions of the Mountain Fork River, McCurtain County, Oklahoma from 1 August 1970 through 31 July 1971. Only those people actively using the river were interviewed to determine amount of use, aspects of fisherman harvest and economic value of the resource. A total of 16,542 people (8,408 above and 8,134 below) spent $88,133 ($45,188 above and $42,945 below) and caught 31,442 of 17 species of fish, (26,457 above and 4,985 below) weighing 13,584 pounds (11,580 above and 2,003 below). People being interviewed stated a preference for the free flowing portions of the river as opposed to the regulated flows below the reservoir. (Author)
