Abstract This technical report describes a new sediment transport model and the supporting postprocessor, and sampling procedures for sediments in streams. EFDC1D (Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code-One Dimensional) is a state-of-the-science one-dimensional hydrodynamic and sediment transport model that can be used to model sediment impacted streams and rivers for determination of sediment TMDLs (Total Maximum Daily Load). The Nonpoint Source Model (NPSM) in BASINS (Better Assessment Science Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources) is HSPF (The Hydrological Simulation Program - FORTRAN). HSPF is a set of computer codes that can simulate the hydrologic, and associated water quality for both conventional and toxic organic pollutants, processes on pervious and impervious land surfaces, and in streams and well-mixed impoundments. The goal of this project is to upgrade the flow and sediment transport routines in HSPF. The existing sediment transport and flow routines in HSPF are simple routing modules, and as such, are limited to steady, uni-direction flows. The specific objectives of this research project designed to accomplish the stated goal are to develop a new stand-alone one-dimensional (1-D) hydrodynamic and sediment transport model and to describe the sampling procedures for collecting the sediment transport data necessary to perform sediment transport modeling in streams/rivers.
