Abstract |
An analytical method was developed for the analysis of volatile priority pollutants in airstreams passing through wastewaters using a Tenax GC cartridge in combination with gas chromatography/mass spectrometry/computer. A sampling system was designed and field tested for sampling airstreams passing through grit chambers and activated sludge systems. Recovery of the volatile priority pollutants was accomplished by thermal desorption, purging with helium into a liquid-nitrogen-cooled nickel capillary trap, and releasing the vapors onto a gas chromatographic column. Characterization and quantification of the priority pollutants was accomplished by GC-mass spectrometry. |
