Abstract |
Long-term effects of applying partially treated municipal wastewater to croplands were examined at six locations in the western U.S. All locations had received wastewater for at least 10 years. The effects on soil, groundwater and crop tissues were measured and compared with measurements made at nearby control sites where crops were irrigated with water from wells or other conventional sources. Data for some 50 parameters measured at the six sites are summarized in this report. The data indicate that the soil and plants effectively reduce the concentration of most pollutants in the wastewater. |
