Abstract | An intensive stream survey was conducted in the Big Bureau Creek watershed in 1990. The study area lies within Bureau County in north-central Illinois. Six stations were sampled for water chemistry, fish population and instream habitat. Based on these data, environmental quality was evaluated using various indices, including water quality (WQI), fish community (IBI) and instream habitat (PIBI). Each station was rated for degree of use support of aquatic life and classified according to the Biological Stream Characterization System used for Illinois streams. |
