Abstract |
The objectives were to assess current residential and commercial solid waste collection programs, examine solid waste collection system upgrading alternatives, evaluate the feasibility of solid waste baling and transfer, and to determine the potential market for discarded materials from a recovery program. Some of the conclusions are: a separation program has potential; recovery of aluminum is a high probability; markets for paper and ferrous metals do exist; the use of satellite vehicles would be more productive; curb-side collection is recommended; four person crews can be reduced to two; and a backdoor collection system would be more cost efficient. |
