Abstract |
The report describes an improved mathematical model for use by control personnel to determine the adequacy of existing or proposed filter systems designed to minimize coal fly ash emissions. Several time-saving steps have been introduced to facilitate model application by Agency and other groups. To further aid the model user, the study is in two volumes: a detailed technical report and a user's guide. By using selected combustion, operating, and design parameters, the model user can forecast the expected emissions and filter pressure loss. The program affords the option of providing readily appraised summary performance statistics or highly detailed results. Several built-in error checks prevent the generation of useless data and avoid unnecessary computer time. The model takes into account the concentration and physical properties of the dust, air/cloth ratio, sequential compartmentized operation, and the method, intensity, and frequency of cleaning. The model function depends on the unique fabric cleaning and dust penetration properties observed with several coal fly ashes (including lignite) and woven glass fabrics. |
