Abstract |
Static bioassay tests with Mya arenaria were conducted over a 96 hour period to determine the effects of a No. 2 fuel oil and a South Louisiana crude oil. Oils were added in an emulsified form as a single dose concentration at the beginning of the experiment. Oils were tested at 4 and 14C over a concentration range from 50 - 1600 ppm. Behavioral observations were made in all tests. Although LC50 determinations were inconclusive, behavioral effects were repeatable for both crude and refined oil. The increasingly greater concentrations of oil elicited greater mucus secretion and decreased tactile response. The effects were greater at higher temperatures. |
