Abstract |
The ecological balances in the Bay are extremely complex and are affected by many factors. Nutrient enrichment is just one of the important factors contributing to imbalances in the Bay's delicate ecology. The purpose of this progress report is to give an overview of the problem caused by excess nutrients in the Bay, to explain the status of the ongoing Nutrient Reduction Reevaluation, and to report progress to date. Although this progress report's findings are preliminary, trends and generalizations of nutrient loads, water quality, and habitat improvements are becoming evident. Most of the background studies for the Nutrient Reduction Reevaluation have been drafted. To date, seven model runs have been completed for use in the report. Many additional computer model runs and refinements of the model will be necessary before results can be synthesized into final recommendations. |
