Abstract |
In 1965, the U.S. Army reactivated the Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant at nearby Tyner, Tennessee, to produce explosives needed for defense. Shortly thereafter numerous complaints of particulate and gaseous emissions were received by various governmental officials from many irate citizens in the surrounding area. On October 1, 1967, an air quality survey was begun in the Chattanooga, Tennessee - Rossville, Georgia, interstate area to fulfill both the request of the Department of Defense and the City of Chattanooga. Four other investigations were conducted in the area during the period from October 1967 through April 1969: (1) meteorological measurements; (2) vegetation effects measurements; (3) materials effects studies; and (4) emissions survey. This report concerns these investigations and their results. (Author) |
