Abstract |
The Clean Water Act of 1977 requires the development of protective criteria for ambient water contaminants that may adversely affect human health. Consequently, EPA developed guidelines and a methodology to derive these criteria for individual chemicals and prepared ambient Water Quality Criteria documents for a group of 65 chemicals listed in the Act as priority chemicals. The methodology and summaries of the criteria data were published in 1980. The document proposes a revision to the 1980 methodology. The need for this is a result of the recognition that the underlying science has advanced significantly in the past 12 years. |
