Abstract | Enclosed for your information is a report of a 14-week vapor inhalation study with rats concerning 2,4-pentanedione C (sub 5) H (sub 8) O (sub 2), CAS No. 123-54-6. The test results confirm previously reported findings that subchronic recurrent exposure of rats to 2, 4-pentanedione at high doses may cause a high level of mortality, degenerative changes in the brain and thymus in animals that died, and gliosis in some survivors. Although Union Carbide does not regard this information as reportable under Section 8(e) of the Toxic Substances Control Act, in light of EPA's position on other Section 8(e) judgments by Union Carbide, we are submitting the study for your information. |
