Abstract |
This report describes the results of field and laboratory investigations conducted between October 1978and October 1980. The field studies yielded data on the prevalence and geographical distribution of diseased bottom-dwelling flatfish, specially English sole and starry flounder, in the Duwamish Waterway, Seattle, and other selected estuaries in Puget Sound. Levels of toxic metals, chlorinated hydrocarbons, and polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (AHs) in fish and bottom sediments from these estuaries were also determined. Concentrations of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in liver tissues of both English sole and starry flounder reflected the concentrations of these compounds in sediments from which the animals were captured. |
