Abstract | An investigation has been conducted, concerning the properties of a limestone that are important in determining its effectiveness when injected into a combustion chamber to decrease the emission of SO2 in the stack gas from burning sulfur-containing fuel in a power plant. To obtain this information, reactivities of thirty-five stones were measured and correlated with their mineralogical and crystallographic properties. Rates and capacities of sulfation were taken as measures of reactivity. The report is divided into three parts: reaction mechanisms and kinetics, properties of calcines and sulfated limestones, and evaluation of the reactivities of selected limestones toward SO2. |
