Abstract |
The areal distributions of the concentrations of 13 metals in sea scallop tissues were examined in the vicinity of two ocean disposal sites located off the U.S. mid-Atlantic coast. Patterns of metals distribution show that: (1) Five specific metals may be used as identification tags for individual wastes disposed at the two sites, and (2) disposed materials tend to be transported by currents south and southwest from the disposal sites, and (3) biological availability and potential toxicity of metals pose a threat to marine biota. |
