The literature was searched to identify the various techniques, past and present, used for the control of stormwater management. Fifteen different basic techniques for stormwater management were selected and grouped under three categories: surface detention, subsurface detention, and infiltration systems. The presentation includes a description of the technique, a discussion of its applicability, an example of an actual application where available, and a brief review of the available design, maintenance and construction considerations. Needs for planning, design, maintenance and institutional considerations of stormwater management, are described.
