| Abstract |
A Comprehensive List of Chesapeake Bay Basin Species 1997 is an update of a 1992 document published by the Environmental Protection Agency Chesapeake Bay Progrma Office (CBP/TRS 70/92). It provides a list of aquatic and aquatic-associated organisms found in recent decades in the Chesapeake Bay Basin. The list was originally extracted from monitoring data collected by federal and state agencies and private institutions. An extensive search identified other available aquatic Chesapeake Bay species information. Species data were collected from the following agencies: Interstate Commission on the Potomac River Basin; Maryland Department of the Environment; and Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences; Species identified by these sources were then verified and merged with: preexisting EPA Chesapeake Bay species list. In addition, three documents were reviewed to identify and include water-associated biota such as waterfowl, raptors and wetlands vegetation. |
