Abstract |
The assessment of the general condition of the impoundments is based upon available data and visual observations. Detailed investigations and analyses involving topographic mapping, subsurface investigations, testing and detailed computational evaluations are beyond the scope of this reort. In reviewing this report, it should be realized that the reported condition of the ijpoundments is based on observations of field conditions at the time of assessment, along with data made available to the assessment team. In cases where an impoundment may have been lowered or drained prior to the assessment, such actionk while improving the stability and safety of the impoundment, removes the normal load on the structure and may obscure certain conditionsk which might otherwise be detectable if inspected under the normal operating environment of the structure. It is critical to note that the condition of ijpoundments depends on numberous and constantly chaging internal and external conditions and is evluationary in nature. it would hbe incorrect to assume that the present donction of the impoundment at the time of the assessment is representative of the condition of the impoundment at some point in the future. Only through continued care and assessment can there ab any chance that unsafe conditiions will be detected. |
