Abstract |
A demonstration was conducted of a system for removing and processing sediment from impoundment bodies such as artificial lakes and ponds. A MUD CAT dredge was used to remove the sediment from a pond. The dredged slurry was then pumped through a processing system consisting of a pair of elevated clarifier bins in series, a bank of hydrocyclones, a cartridge filter unit, and a Uni-Flow bag-type fabric filter consisting of 720 one-inch diameter hoses. The MUD CAT proved efficient in removing sediment from the pond bottom without imparting a substantial amount of turbidity to the pond water. The processing system was effective in removing suspended sediment from the dredged slurry. |
