Abstract
For calendar year 1995, 1,185 facilities submitted 3,877 individual toxic chemical release reports totalling 139.3 million pounds of releases and transfers. This includes 18.7 million pounds from 31 chemical reportable for the first time in 1995. Zinc (fume or dust) and compounds had the highest reported releases and transfers, at 28.3 million pounds. The combined total of fugitive and stack air emissions topped all other environmental areas at 71.4 million pounds. Facilities in Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code 3312 (steel works, blast furnaces, coke ovens and rolling mills) exceeded all other industrial categories with reported releases and transfers of 34.6 million pounds.
