Abstract
This report evaluates source reduction, recycling, and treatment technologies as alternatives to land disposal of California's metal-bearing wastes. Generation of metal wastes by industries in the state is discussed and waste management options for foundry activities, metal cleaning, and stripping, surface treating and plating, drag-out and coating, auxiliary operations, general operating practices, specific industries are presented. Specific industry processes discussed include printed circuit board manufacturing, photo processing and printing, and refinery processes. Material substitution, closed loop recycling, drag-out reduction, and alternative processes were among the waste minimization methods discussed. Regulatory aspects are also discussed in the report and statutes and regulations and state and federal contacts are given in appendixes.
