Abstract | The decision document presents the selected remedial action for the J&L Landfill, in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The purpose of this remedy is to reduce the risks associated with exposure to the contaminated materials and to reduce the potential for migration of contaminants to the groundwater. The selected remedy for OU1 consists of a 1-foot compacted clay layer overlain with a Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)/60 mil Flexible Membrane Liner (FML) barrier layer, a drainage layer consisting of geonet with geotextile filter fabric, a 36-inch clean fill layer, and a 6-inch topsoil layer; consolidation of the contaminated soil and sediments from the east ditch; and monitoring of the contaminated groundwater beneath the site. In addition, a proper slope will be constructed and maintained so that all surface water runoff properly drains off the cap into a collection system, or drainage ditches around the perimeter of the site. |
