Abstract
A manure handling and drying system involving caged layers with daily manure collection, air drying, and dehydration in a flash-type dryer has been studied. Objectives of the study were to: (1) Develop a complete manure handling system to maximize pollution control; (2) determine optimum operating conditions; (3) minimize energy required of the system; (4) determine certain microbial and nutritional qualities of the dried product; (5) be adaptable to commercial poultry operations; and (6) determine the economics of the system.
