Abstract
The report describes the results of a data analysis study to determine the correlation between ozone (O3) and sulfur dioxide (SO2) concentrations in ambient air using data that had been obtained in Los Angeles and St. Louis. Sulfur dioxide concentrations were determined by the flame photometer detector method. Ozone concentrations were determined by the chemiluminescent reaction between ozone and ethylene. Not having an established gas phase reaction model as a basis for relating SO2 and O3 in this study, a series of simple linear regressions were performed to test or determine the significance of a relationship if it exists. Data sets consisted of hourly averages obtained at the same time each day. (Author)
