Abstract
EPA's Office of Pesticides and Toxic Substances (OPTS) recently completed a preliminary evaluation of a TSCA Section 8(e) notice that was submitted by the Allied Corporation and pertained to the following chemical substance: 5,7,11-dodecatriyn-1-ol. (A copy of the status report, and follow-up letter prepared in response to Allied's Section 8(e) notice is enclosed for your information.) Please note that 5, 7, 11-dodecatriyn-1-ol bears some degree of structural similarity to 1-hexyn-3-ol, a chemical that was the subject of a previous TSCA Section 8(e) notice (8EHQ-0179-0273) submitted by the Dow Chemical Company. In view of the structural similarity between these two chemicals and considering EPA's general interest in company actions that are taken on a voluntary basis in response to chemical toxicity and/or exposure information, the Agency asks the Dow Chemical Company to describe the nature of all studies (with the exception of those reported in 8EHQ-0179-0273) that Dow has conducted, is conducting, or is planning to conduct to determine the toxicity or and/or the exposure to 1-hexyn-3-ol.
