Abstract |
Genetically engineered plants (GEPs) that express new or improved pesticidal properties, enhanced resistance to herbicides, improved nutritional value, and resistance to disease have been created. Heightened awareness of environmental and health concerns associated with the deliberate release of GEPs and the pending entry of GEPs into the commercial market recently compelled EPA to reevaluate the Agency's registration and licensing authority under various EPA Acts. The report addresses the role EPA should play in the expanding development of GEP's. |
