Future Activities:
In the third year of this project, our activities will focus on characterizing the metal binding, antimicrobial, and physical filtration performance on these membranes in dynamic flow filtration studies. The membranes that showed the most promise in static studies will be used for this work. The effect of fiber composition and morphology as well as membrane thickness on these properties will be investigated and the feasibility of the use of these membranes as effective filtration media will be assessed. In addition, the exact surface composition of these blend fibers will be determined as a function of bulk composition and processing parameters using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). These data will help us to further optimize the performance of these membranes.
