RFA: Life-Cycle Analysis to Support Cost-Effective Enhanced Aquifer Recharge Request for Applications (RFA) (2022) RFA Text | Recipients Lists
Research Category: Water Quality
Objective:
Contribute to the nation’s water-related human, environmental, and economic well-being by removing barriers, developing tools, and providing knowledge in service of implementation of EAR.
Progress Summary:
- Substantial written and conceptual progress on primary deliverable, complemented by further development of figures and tables, to advance a robust structure with important conceptual bridges between geochemical, legal, and economic topics
- Produced a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) of the Recharge Net Metering (ReNeM) program, which created the architecture of the EAR project’s LCA decision-making tool
- Produce a feasibility and risk assessment tool that focuses on recharge basins
- Important hiring that has driven substantial progress across all pillars
- In-person workshops in Davis and Santa Cruz, California to drive progress and team cohesion
- Formation of an expert advisory committee for feedback and expanded perspectives beyond project team’s expertise
Future Activities:
- Complete the EAR Lifecycle Map report and accompanying Life Cycle Assessment tool. This work will include an expanded literature review for a repository of existing data on possible values to attach to variables with the tool, in-depth analysis of key topics, and exploration of interconnections between geochemical, legal, and economic concepts.
- Narrow to a select list of ancillary products, including possible priority EAR case studies for further exploration and decision-support guides and tools.
- Undertake engagement centered around case study development and research. Attend conferences and other engagement opportunities to present on this EAR project.
