Objective:

The objectives of this research project are to: (1) develop a computable general equilibrium model of an urban economy that links land use, transportation, and other economic decisions at the firm and household levels; and (2) use the model to project mobile source emissions over a 50-year time horizon under a variety of economic and technological assumptions.

Progress Summary:

During Year 2 of the project, we accomplished the following tasks:

Integrated Strategic and Regional Transport (START) model enhancements, including addition of park-and-ride capability for rail transit and facilitation of transit capacity expansions.
Developed LUSTRE 1, an integration of the Real Estate and Land Use (RELU) model with the START regional transport model.
Developed emission factor model.
Completed a sensitivity analysis of the LUSTRE 1 integrated model framework.

Future Activities:

In the next year, we will: (1) develop LUSTRE 2, an enhancement to LUSTRE 1 that treats households as agents (rather than workers as in LUSTRE 1); (2) integrate the RELU-START activity model with the emission factor model; (3) perform a sensitivity analysis of the integrated framework; and (4) prepare inputs for the air quality simulation model.
