Abstract Source reduction means reducing waste before it's created. This can be accomplished by reducing the amount of material designed into a product, and by using recyclable alternative materials wherever possible. An area overlooked as a target for waste reduction is the ordinary corrugated box. According to the Fibre Box Association, 20 million tons of corrugated were produced in 1989, about half of which was recycled.
