Abstract |
The Ogallala Formation is one of the large groundwater reservoirs of the world. It extends from Southern South Dakota to Southwest Texas. Because of its geographic expanse and geological properties, the Ogallala Formation is of great economic importance. It is the primary source of freshwater for all uses and much of its surface exposure is comprised of rich, level soils, highly suited for irrigated agriculture. The report describes research undertaken to try to establish the rate at which pollutants move from an unlined treated sewage storage pond into the underground formation and the rate at which such pollutants move laterally through the formation. The research was focused on nitrate as a pollutant. |
