Abstract |
This report reviews the potential environmental hazard from the commercial use of ketonic solvents with the exception of acetone. Three ketones - cyclohexanone, methyl ethyl ketone, and methyl isobutyl ketone - dominate the market. Other commercial ketonic solvents include diacetone alcohol, isophorone, mesityl oxide, and acetophenone. Information on physical and chemical properties, production methods and quantities, commercial uses and factors affecting environmental contamination, as well as information related to health and biological effects, are reviewed. |
