Abstract |
The pollution of this section of the Verdigris River was studied to determine the cause of the taste and odor that occur from time to time in the Nowata water supply. Over 170 samples were collected and analyzed from August to October, 1948. The results to not preclude the possibility of the occurence of a municipal sewage, algae, or decompoisition of organic matter. It is concluded that continued care should be exercised by the oil refineries to isolate and impound the stronger phenolic wastes, to utilize existing treatment units to the best advantage, and to avoid spills or prevent their discharge into the river. |
