Abstract |
The report is derived from analyses of data on 582 mining waste samples collected at 99 mines. One set of analyses compares sample data with various EPA standards for hazard, drinking water, and ambient water. The other set of analysis compares metal concentrations in raw samples (total analyses), acetic acid extracts and distilled water extracts (Following a Modified EP). The analyses demonstrated that some standards are below the detectable limits for analytic tests used in the mining study and confirmed that acetic acid extraction is a more aggressive leaching technique for metals and anions, than distilled water extraction. However, regression analyses showed few correlations between metal content of solid mining waste samples and concentrations in extracts. |
