Abstract |
This study consisted of three research phases designed to evaluate the counteractive effects of corrosion treatment (pH adjustment) and disinfection (chlorination): (1) Electrochemical Tests - Copper corrosion rates were measured under varying pH, free chlorine residual and chloride concentration using a rotating disc electrode and linear potential sweep technique with solution resistance compensation. (2) On-Site Treatment Tests - The effects of simulated corrosion treatment start-up on chemical and microbial water quality from an old galvanized plumbing system were monitored. (3) Bacteriological Tests - The survival of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Enterobacter aerogenes was determined under varying pH and free chlorine residual. |
