Abstract |
The exposure of Operations personnel to benzene (Bz) , ethyl acetate (EtAC) and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) concentrations in air was determined in various situations in the plant. All the samples should be representative of the exposure encountered by the operator in the various situations monitored. The ten data forms (2 Bz, 5 EtAC and 3 MEK) , which are to be filed in the Safety Department, are attached. A discussion of the effects of exposure to Bz, EtAC and MEK are presented in MRS-45-77, MRS-47-77 and MRS-46-77, respectively. Sufficient data are now avail- able to write initial determinations for EtAc and MEK. The status of the Bz concentration-in-air survey was reported in MRS-44-77. This is the first time the Operator 3 in Area VIII has been monitored for Bz. It would appear that their exposure tr Bz is very similar to that of the Operator A. The Operator B is responsible for the gauging of tanks in the 2-EHACA unit which occurs four times a shift. At least in the case of Mr. Loter, this gauging add the walking through the 2-ERACA Unit were the only direct exposure to Bz vapors. The monitoring of exposure levels of operators to Bz will continue as the need arises. |
